Jungheinrich has launched a new pallet truck on the market in autumn 2007. This is the electric pedestrian pallet truck type ERE 225 with a fixed stand-on platform. The robust truck equipped with 3-phase AC technology as standard was specially developed for fast and efficient lorry loading and unloading and for transporting large loads over longer distances. The ERE 225 achieves top speeds up to 12.5 km/h (with load up to 9.5 km/h) and can transport loads of 2,500 kg.
"There is an obvious trend towards fixed stand-on platforms," comments Oliver Hiekel, Product Manager for pedestrian trucks at Jungheinrich. "Jungheinrich has developed a new and even more ergonomic platform concept for the ERE 225 for this reason." The workplace on the pedestrian truck was adapted to operator requirements and possible applications. The generous operator workplace and steering operated from both sides provide the operator with a comfortable and safe sideways or frontways standing position, the high backrest with integrated handle provides additional protection. Hiekel adds: "The operator should feel comfortable – generous inside space with optimum safety!"
In addition to the cushioned stand-on platform, the complete drive is cushioned with "ShockProtect". This patented system protects the stand-on platform completely against all impacts. The result: The strain on the operator’s spinal column is relieved and the demands on all technical components of the pallet truck are considerably reduced. Sprung and cushioned support wheels linked via the coupling rocker ProTracLink ensure safe operation of the new ERE 225 in every situation and complement the tried and tested Jungheinrich Curve Control. With the latter, the speed of the truck is automatically reduced on corners dependent on the steering angle.
Steering movements are transferred safely and quickly
The new ERE 225 is equipped with electric steering as standard to ensure precise and effortless steering of the truck. Curve Control and progressive steering, where the tiller has to be locked by only approximately 70° for a 90° corner, ensure safe cornering and straight travel. Due to the compact shape (without tiller arm), steering movements are transferred safely and quickly. A clear colour sys-tem of instruments as well as ergonomically shaped buttons facilitate intuitive operation. The tiller is height adjustable as an option. Its innovative operating concept not only allows fatigue-free and ergonomic operation over the entire shift but also ensures safe forward and reverse travel. The symmetric arrangement of the operator workplace also ensures comfortable handling for both right-handed and left-handed operators. Many depositing facilities and a special paper clipboard on the battery cover and working platform round off the cockpit of the new ERE 225.
Apart from 3-phase AC technology, the control electronics SpeedControl ensures safe and above all energy-saving travel characteristics of the new Jungheinrich pedestrian pallet truck. The speed stipulated on the travel switch is maintained in every travel situation including upward and downward gradients. The ERE 225 brakes automatically in case of unintentional rolling on a ramp or incline. Regenerative braking causes energy to be fed back into the battery on deceleration.
Long service life even in hardest applications
The service-friendly construction of the new truck ensures long-term operating cost reductions. The one-piece motor cover without screws as well as removable side panelling allow easy access to all components.
High battery capacities to 465 Ah and very good energy efficiency ensure long operating times for the ERE 225. "The experience of ten years with 3-phase AC technology is clearly measurable in the test results," says Hiekel.
